Le Montrose
Hotel
The Le Montrose Suite Hotel, located in the West Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, is a luxury all suite, full-service boutique hotel. The property was built in 1976 and renovated in 2012. The hotel completed a remodel in 2018, bringing an “upscale urban vibe” to the hotel with a nod to the local Hollywood music industry. The property includes 133 suites, 5 floors and 2 elevators, along with recreational amenities, including an outdoor pool and tennis court, fitness center, and lounges.
Perkins + Will led the recent revamp and brought on Grand Image to handle the custom artwork throughout. “Our design was inspired by the Le Montrose guest who works hard and plays hard,” said Perkins + Will principal Jackie McGee. The hotel was redesigned to create a welcoming atmosphere with sophisticated, modern suites. These spaces are meant to be a place for all guests to collaborate, brainstorm, have fun, and relax. The spacious, residentially styled hotel is accentuated with custom contemporary art throughout.

The accommodations use a color palette of neutral shades with pops of reds, blues, yellows and oranges. Leather and mixed metals are incorporated to bring an industrial vibe. Grand Image took this direction and ran with it, creating standout entertainment-inspired artwork that is truly unique to this property.
For the guestroom bathrooms, Grand Image sought to hone in on the distinctive, local urban vibe. Grand Image created a custom collage to include graffiti elements, musical motifs, vintage concert posters, and specific Los Angeles references. With a multitude of layering, this piece unveils something new every time it’s seen.
For the guestroom entry, Grand Image created a digital art piece using a variety of speaker styles and shadowing effects to provide a dimensionality, almost as if the speakers are popping off the wall. The pop of gold accent ties in seamlessly with the Pedro Friedeberg inspired hand chair placed beside the art.
The Grand Image studio created another custom digital piece for above the fireplace, this time incorporating black and white photography of Los Angeles, pops of color and the local LA area codes into a barcode design.
The unique headboards, comprised of a digitally manipulated painted portrait with a cassette tape pattern, are printed on type II Artist Canvas vinyl that has been wrapped around MDF. These headboards were made in a variety of configurations to accommodate varied suite and bed setups.
The artwork above the sofa is another commissioned original by a Grand Image artist. It is a contemporary interpretation of the satellite view of the West Hollywood and surrounding neighborhoods. This abstract representation was created using collage technique and a bold, bright color palette provided by the designer.
Individually, each piece of art is interesting in and of itself. But as a cohesive group, this guestroom collection helps to visually narrate the story and passion behind the recent Le Montrose redesign.
