Caldwell
Lynn, MA
The shiny-new and boldly-built in downtown Lynn personifies the vibrant creativity of its community as it rises ten floors into the Massachusetts sky. This smart multi-unit complex with spaces for its resident go-getters and dreamers to get active, relax, work, and ultimately come home presented us with an exciting challenge. Caldwell encapsulates the progressive and this element gave our art advisors, designers, and creators license to plunge deep into the realms of possibility, invigorating the multi-functional spaces with beautiful and entirely custom artworks.
Further inspiration for our design and installation came from the site's former use as the Spinney and Caldwell factory. Weaving this backstory of innovation, determination, and shoe-making into the narrative, we had fun honoring the past while simultaneously interpreting the city's push towards the future.

The introduction starts in the lobby with the 'Well Hello' wall sign - the complex's equivalent of a first handshake with someone you sense immediately could become a friend. With a cheeky smile that confidently says, 'this is who I am', this warm greeting sets the tone, its accompanying custom 3D installation of leather diamonds referencing the site's former shoe-making use and inviting you, from the very start, to step straight into the heritage story.
The narrative continues on the opposite lobby wall where a set of acrylic boxes suspend and display shoe-related objects. These original creations strongly convey the Caldwell theme that focuses on the ever-unwinding thread linking times gone by with times to come.
Head on up the stairs to the mail room where art and technology cavort together, filling the walls with expression and projecting one-of-a-kind design directly onto the walls. Completing this unique gallery are two screens displaying ever-rotating imagery and a collection of bespoke abstracts ranging from compact to statement-huge.
Another of our gorgeous custom collection pieces with its air of timeless movement beckons you into the open meeting room on the other side of the mail room, reflecting the way the building's spaces flow seamlessly into each other.
From first floor to roof terrace, Caldwell's array of light-filled common areas allowed us to explore the aesthetic and play with Caldwell's warm and creative seduction. The 6th-floor Games Room has a thought-provoking black-and-white custom print gracing a geometrically patterned wall while the Club Room is home to the urban-themed 'Crosswalk 3', a moment-in-time Giclee on canvas work by Vietnam-born artist PC Ngo.
More interpretation of space, time, and place continues with restrooms, corridors, and work areas. From the pooches who lead the way to the pet spa to the dipped frame images of historic photos and maps, this is a cutting-edge art curation that celebrates where Caldwell has come from while simultaneously embarking on an exciting journey to explore what's next.
